Overview

‘Pace It’ is designed to be a companion app for those who suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, by allowing users to record their daily habits and track their resulting energy levels throughout the day.

Defining the problem

There is currently no cure or medication for ‘fixing’ Chronic Fatigue, instead, one of the methods of diagnosing symptoms and maintaining quality of life is through a paper form that must be completed daily in order to be of use.

The challenges were:

  • to create a more pleasant, easy to use interface to remove the barrier for capturing useful data

  • to use colour and data visualisation to assist the user in reading historical data

  • to provide a level of detail in which the user could annotate data

The first prototypes consisted of directly replacing the form with a digital interface on a phone. I took these wireframes and designed a colour palette and brand identity for the app - choosing cool, calm blue tones. One of the challenges was to simplify the repetitive visuals of a daily app - I used icons and gradients to help reduce monotony.

Feedback & Final Design: At this point, user feedback was that the app felt too much associated with other generic health brand, with the cool shades - so we revisited the design with a bright, energetic palette that moved away from the metaphor of fatigue.
